Its Ok to ‘Do What You Can’- As long as you give it ALL YOU’VE GOT!

I am 2 1/2 months in to my training for the 2016 race season and as always my days have been rife with learnings, roadblocks, small successes and lots of sweat. Having Sean Geuvremont as a coach has been such a valuable asset so far. First of all I have someone other than myself to answer to with my training. Secondly I have an outsider’s and expert opinion to guide me when things are not quite going the way I’d like them to.

For those of you that aren’t aware, not only am I training for my races this year, I am also a part time student and working 2 jobs. Time has not been on my side so far. A couple weeks ago I had another (of many) rush of anxiety around- ‘How am I going to get everything done?’- It was yet another day that felt like there just wasn’t enough hours in the day. The anxiety built as I thought about my upcoming races and my goals for this season and feeling torn between all of my responsibilities and not wanting to fail.

It was in this moment that I took a much needed step back, and re-assessed what was really going on. I was trying to hold down a training schedule that just was not conducive with my current state of affairs. I realized that maybe I don’t need 4 hour training days every day to see results. What I needed was quality work where I could focus in, get the job done and move on to the next item of the day. I immediately sent Sean an email asking to dial back and refocus so that I could rid myself of the anxiety of missing a workout. Within hours Sean replied that he was thinking the exact same thing and was thinking we should focus on “commiting to less”! To my relief he was on it and the next week I took a look at my training schedule and felt a renewed sense of confidence knowing that I CAN get the work in and still keep up with my other commitments.

It never ceases to amaze me, all that I get out of my training that has nothing to do with the physical side of things. These past 2 months I have learned that its OK to do ‘what you can’, as long as you do that with ALL that you’ve got!  My

2016 race season won’t know what hit it.
